DomMCP is an add-in for the HCL Domino server that exposes NSF databases over HTTP as an MCP server (Model Context Protocol). This lets AI agents work with Domino directly.
- Read & write: AI agents access Domino documents and modify them.
- Build (Vibe Coding): create design elements such as forms, views, agents and pages.
- AI clients: claude.ai via OAuth 2.1, ChatGPT-compatible, n8n & other clients via bearer token.
- Queries: DQL and aggregations over NSF data.
- Control: fine-grained permissions, run-as ACL and audit log.
- Operation: Linux, Windows and HCL Domino container (.taz), offline license.
- Editions: Essentials free of charge permanently, plus Analyst, PRO and ENTERPRISE; 7 days with the full PRO feature set for evaluation.
For many years, HCL Domino has managed business-critical data and applications in countless organisations. With DomMCP, these NSF databases become accessible to AI agents, not just for reading, but also for writing and designing. The foundation is the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard through which AI clients communicate with external systems.
What DomMCP is
DomMCP is a server add-in for HCL Domino. It runs directly on the Domino server and exposes selected NSF databases over HTTP as an MCP server. An MCP-capable AI client connects to this endpoint and can then work with the database's Domino data and design, within the configured permissions. HCL itself has no MCP server for Domino to date (as of August 2026). The DomMCP product page gives an overview of the feature set and the editions.
What AI agents can do with it
DomMCP enables three classes of actions:
- Read: retrieve and search documents and content from NSF databases and evaluate them via DQL and aggregations.
- Write: create, update and delete documents.
- Build: create and adapt design elements such as forms, views, agents and pages.
Building applications in a dialogue with an AI agent is also referred to as “Vibe Coding”: instead of building every design element manually in Domino Designer, you describe the goal and the agent creates the elements through DomMCP.
Connecting AI clients
DomMCP is compatible with MCP-capable clients. claude.ai connects through the OAuth 2.1 connector; DomMCP is also ChatGPT-compatible. The automation platform n8n and other clients connect via bearer token to embed Domino into larger workflows.
Security and control
Because AI agents can modify data and build design, control is the top priority. DomMCP provides:
- Fine-grained permissions that define which actions are allowed.
- A run-as ACL, so that access runs within the Domino access control list.
- An audit log that records performed actions in a traceable way.

Editions and licensing
DomMCP runs on an offline license and is available in four editions: Essentials, Analyst, PRO and ENTERPRISE. Essentials is free of charge, permanently, and shows how an application is built: which databases exist, the views and fields inside them, and the state of the server. Analyst reads and analyses without changing anything: documents, views, DQL, aggregations, log analysis, bulk export, effective access rights, and the design of an existing application. PRO creates documents and design elements and runs agents. ENTERPRISE adds what is needed for operations: byte-faithful design import, database signing, console commands, user and permission management.
For evaluation there are 7 days with the full PRO feature set. If that period ends without a purchase, the installation is automatically moved down to Essentials, nothing is deleted and nothing is locked. Prices for the paid tiers are available on request. The DomMCP product page carries the current state.
Who is DomMCP for?
DomMCP is aimed at organisations that use HCL Domino and want to open up their existing NSF applications for AI-assisted scenarios, from analysing existing data to building new application components faster. The ready-made binaries are available for download as a public GitHub release.

Frequently asked questions about DomMCP
What is DomMCP?
DomMCP is a server add-in for HCL Domino. It exposes NSF databases over HTTP as an MCP server (Model Context Protocol), so that AI agents can access Domino data and design.
Which platforms are supported?
DomMCP runs on HCL Domino on Linux and Windows as well as in the official HCL Domino container (installed via the .taz package).
Which AI clients can be connected?
DomMCP is compatible with MCP-capable clients. claude.ai connects through the OAuth 2.1 connector, ChatGPT is also compatible, and automation tools such as n8n connect via bearer token.
Can AI agents also modify Domino data?
Yes. Through DomMCP, AI agents can read and write Domino documents and create design elements such as forms, views, agents and pages. Which actions are allowed is controlled by fine-grained permissions, a run-as ACL and an audit log.
How is DomMCP licensed?
DomMCP uses offline licensing and is available in the Essentials, Analyst, PRO and ENTERPRISE editions. Essentials is free of charge permanently and shows how an application is built; documents, DQL and aggregations begin at Analyst. For evaluation there are 7 days with the full PRO feature set; after that, without a purchase, the installation is automatically moved down to Essentials, nothing is deleted and nothing is locked. Prices for the paid tiers are available on request.
What does Vibe Coding mean in the context of DomMCP?
Vibe Coding means that Domino applications can be built in a dialogue with an AI agent: the agent creates design elements such as forms, views, agents and pages through DomMCP, instead of building them manually in Domino Designer.
